Final Year Project

Project Title

The Influence of Palestinian Youth's Activism on Western Media News-Coverage of Israel-Palestine Conflict

Description

The project aims to inquire whether the Palestinian Youth's activism through participatory media has affected Western Media houses; coverage of the Israel-Palestine conflict in the US. The research mainly focused on the media houses operating in the US. This research selected 30 images reported by CNN, Washington Post, and Fox News from Gaza War 2014 and the #SaveSheikhjarrah movement in 2021. The 2021 's media coverage saw the emergence of new themes like the role of global allies, the political power of Western nations, Palestinian youth rebellion, and the refusal to become another war's victims. The results point towards more Israel-centric coverage of Fox News during 2021 's reporting than its media coverage in 2014. The study's analysis and discussion highlight the biased and selective nature of image reporting, which can reaffirm the narrative that benefits those in power.
